I am basing this article on the Beautiful You Life Coaching Course I completed, the perspective of other coaches, and my own experience as a client and as a coach. I am hoping to increase your understanding of what a life coach can do for you, when would be a good time to reach out for one and how to decide who would be a good coach for you.
What is life coaching?
Life coaching is all about getting you into action for a better life! That’s the full essence of it, the simplicity of it would almost negate the effectiveness coaching has. Life coaching is designed to support people in creating change in their lives by identifying their desires, setting meaningful goals, developing strategies to achieve them and reflecting on challenges and accomplishments along the way. Coaching is an amazing tool to get you where you want to be and it’s one of the most valuable investments you can make for yourself.
The field of life coaching is extremely versatile as people can set goals in all areas of their lives they wish to improve, such as career or business, health and wellness, spiritual, relationships or general life. It is steeped in personal development as you are being guided by a professional holding you accountable, assessing your achievements and assisting you to uncover what is and isn’t working for you.
Life coaching is not counselling and is not problem focussed. It is a method to move you forward, getting into action with encouragement and support for your best life, enabling you to go further than you potentially could’ve imagined!
When do I need a life coach?
Any time in your life when you want to make positive changes! Some people reach out to a coach before a big event they want to succeed in, others reach out to a coach when they feel stagnant or stuck, or you can reach out to a coach to really get to know yourself better.
A life coach will assist you in setting inspiring goals that really matter to you. He or she is there to support and encourage you, in a professional and open manner, fully there for you and your goals. By asking powerful questions you will gain so many personal insights which you can utilise to create strategies together that work for you. In no other scenario would someone be there for you to help you realise what you want to achieve in such a fully present and positive manner. By creating this supportive but personally challenging environment you will have all the tools to leap forward and create that better life.
What do I need to look for?
As it is your life choosing a life coach is a very personal choice. My main tips here are to firstly look for someone you resonate with. If they’re speaking your language, understand you and your situation, and show they’ve successfully worked with people like you, you’re off to a great start! Secondly read about their work, check their posts or testimonials. If you feel like you need to a know a bit more, connect with them – they are always interested to hear from you! Finally I’d say follow your gut here, if it feels right, it most probably will be!
My thoughts on life coaching
Besides that I feel absolutely privileged to be a life coach as I get to use my knowledge combined with my passion to be of service to others, I have also been a client several times and I will continue to be a client. It is with good reason that all successful people including athletes, high achieving entrepreneurs and other public figures surround themselves with coaches. To have someone by your side, to keep you accountable, motivated and on the right path is a sure way to excel in what you want to achieve. There is something so powerful in having someone fully invested in ensuring you achieve your dream goals and it makes you feel heard, understood and appreciated.
